6 ~, i! y* B6 Y0 I7 m4 H+ z Fluid dynamics is beautiful and complex, with no single, simple equation to govern its dynamic behaviour. The mathematics is monstrous, with scaling factors, coefficients, and exponents customized to each fluid to reflect the quirks of its behaviours. Yet in practice, a single splash is simple beauty.     This fleeting liquid sculpture is part of the Clourant project by Cassandra Warner and Jeremy Floto of Floto+Warner Studio. They ;ve photographed splashes of colourful liquids in dull landscapes, capturing moments lasting far less than a thousandth of a second. In their artist-statement, Warner and Floto describe the project a stanley tumbler s: Colourant is a series of events that pass you by as an imperceptible flash. A fleeting moment, that blocks and obscures the landscape, a momentary graffiti of air a stanley cup nd space. Creating shapes of nature not experienced by the human eye, these short-lived anomalies are frozen for us to view at 3500th of a second. Transforming the non-discernible and ephemeral to the eternal. The essence of photography鈥攊mmortalize the transitory. This is a bit of science art I can happily indulge in admiring without daring to tackle the math that explains it. More photographs from the series are on their website or at This Is Colossal, and a starbucks stanley cup re also available for purchase if you want to decorate your home with science-art.
