1 j6 v; B0 Q7 \8 B A garbage truck crashed into an overpass in Ohio Tuesday, killing the driver and rupturing a gas line that forced homes to be evacuated. The truck hit the understructure of the bridge and gashed a natural gas line, said Fire Chief Rich Brannon of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. Several other vehicles were involved in the crash. The crash scene looks like pickup sticks, Brannon said.Holes and bent beams in the bridge created potentially unsafe conditions because there are gas lines in it, the Ohio Department of Transportation said.I stanley website t was not immediately clear how many people were evacuated. The gas was shut off and people were permitted to return to their homes. The crash happened at 4:39 a.m. about 50 miles southeast of Cleveland. ponent--type-recirculation .item:nth-child 5 display: non stanley cups uk e; inline-recirc-item--id-941b409e-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d, right-rail-recirc-item--id-941b409e-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d display: none; inline-recirc-item--id-941b409e-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d ~ .item:nth-child 5 disp stanley cups lay: block; Kmcd IRS: Boston-area taxpayers will get time on taxes4 T7 q! v7 ]1 ?% \8 u
Inspired by the brilliant getaway mechanism of octopi and squids who use a blast of water to propel themselves away from danger, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering in Germany have developed a similarly stealthy propulsion system for boats and submarines. And it can be created with a single run on a 3D printer, meaning it has the potential to be a cheap alternative to traditional watercraft motors. The prototype uses four flexible plastic spheres each with a hydraulic piston inside. Once flooded with wat stanley cup er the spheres can be coll stanley mug apsed when triggered by a cable, expelling their contents and creating forward propulsion. Because the mechanism can be created using a 3D printer, the researchers feel it could be easily scaled up to propel a large boat at lower costs. And, by eliminating the need for a propeller, it would be considerably safer for other creatures sharing the water. It an exciting breakthrough for anyone not aboard the Nautilus. stanley cup [Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft via Gizmag] 3D printing |
